Watamu
Watamu Marine National Park protects coral gardens, tropical fish and sea turtles, and its beaches are known for their white sand and rock formations. Nearby Mida Creek is a mangrove-lined tidal inlet popular with bird watchers, and the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest is one of the largest remaining coastal forests in East Africa.
Malindi
Malindi has been a trading town for centuries. The Vasco da Gama Pillar recalls the Portuguese explorer’s visit in 1498, and the Malindi Marine National Park offers snorkelling and glass-bottom boat trips. The ruins of Gede, a Swahili town abandoned centuries ago, lie in the forest between Malindi and Watamu.

The north coast is warm year-round, with the driest weather generally from December to March and from July to October.
Getting there
Malindi has an airport with direct flights from Nairobi, and Watamu is a short drive away. Both can also be reached by road from Mombasa.
